There are many choices when it comes to violin lessons.

Some places call themselves conservatories, music academies, schools of music…

But how do you choose?

While a larger school, academy, or conservatory can offer you a wide array of time slots, you may not always get to choose your own teacher. Whichever teacher has an opening at the time is the one that you get. Sometimes this means that you get a teacher that is just starting their teaching career. Also the teacher turn-over rate can oftentimes be very high, with a student taking from one teacher for a semester and then another teacher in the following semester. This can make progress slow and stilted for the student. Sometimes these larger places only allow selected students to perform during end of year concerts and recitals.

At Birmingham Violin Studio, you will be taking with a teacher who has completed her education* and been teaching for decades.  Since she is our only teacher, there will be no teacher turnover. Even make-up lessons will be done with the same teacher. Our teacher, Mrs. Gill, is dedicated to taking students as far and as long as they want to take violin lessons. She is also well versed in music history and music theory so students are sure to get a well-rounded education.

We also understand the importance of performing at Birmingham Violin Studio, so we will have two recitals per year (one at the end of each school semester) as well as seeking opportunities for students to perform elsewhere, such as music outreaches at local nursing homes and public libraries. Students will also be encouraged to play in local youth orchestras and competitions, as their time, ability, and/or enthusiasm for violin allows.

*Mrs. Gill has both a B.M. and an M.M. in music performance, and reached the All-But-Dissertation distinction in her doctoral studies. For more information about Mrs. Gill’s credentials, visit About Christin.
