• Students get two make-up lessons per semester (one during the summer) for either sickness or school-excused absences (or for an adult, work-required) . The make-up lessons will be scheduled for a mutually agreed upon date and time. The need for a make-up lesson must be made at least 2 hours before the student’s regular lesson time will be missed during August through June 1st. If the student will require a make-up lesson from June 1st through August 1st, the teacher must be notified at least 24 hours before the missed lesson. Otherwise lessons will be forfeited.
If the teacher is sick or otherwise cannot come to lesson (i.e. due to weather or an emergency), the lesson will be made-up.

  • Lessons begin on time. Students are expected to have their violin or viola unpacked along with all requisite materials [add link to required materials] and be waiting to come in right at the time for their lesson. If the student is late to their lesson, the time will not be made-up. They will receive whatever time is remaining for their lesson.

  • Students and families are expected to attend non-studio live music experiences (in which the student is not performing at least twice every semester, and once during the summer). This could include attending a symphony concert, a college student’s recital, a rock concert, a jazz jam, etc. I will keep a list of a few suggested activities on the calendar. The student does not have to go to one of the teacher’s suggested experiences. They and their families can explore on their own!

  • Students are expected to practice at least 5 days a week. For younger and/or beginner students this could mean as little as 10-15 minutes per day. For advanced students who are wanting to go to college and major in violin, this could mean 3-4 hours per day. The student’s goals will always be central to the decision of how much is required per day.

  • There will be at least two studio recitals per year, one in December and one in May or early June. All students are highly encouraged to perform. A fee of no more than $35 will be collected before the recital to pay the accompanist for his/her time and to rent the recital space. Specifics will be provided closer to the recital date. (The first recital will be in December 2018.)

  • Lesson fees will be charged monthly and are due on the first of the month. The first month will be prorated.

  • The person that is financially responsible for the lessons will be required to sign a contract agreeing to all of these policies and will be given a copy of said contract.

  • The person that is financially responsible for the lessons must give a one month notice before cancelling lessons.
